Family gatherings and reunions was, and still is. a great source of pride for the people of South Louisiana. After God. in most cases, the family structure is the most important part of the Creole and Cajun cultures alike. Family gatherings were (and still are) the backbone of this structure. On my father's side of the family I have fifty-seven first cousins and numerous second and third cousins. I know most of them by name. The main reason for this is that we gather one day once a year in Church Point for a reunion of catching up. introduction of newest members through birth or marriage. and renewal of friendship and love. We pray together... we eat together... we dance together... we laugh, love and share each other.
